To start, make sure you understand what is in your plan of care.

The services you receive are based on a “plan of care” that the HHA develops when they assess you. This plan must be approved and signed by your doctor. HHA staff must go over this plan with you when you first start to get care.

You should also understand what home health benefits Medicare will and will not cover so you know what you are entitled to. For example, if you only need personal care, but not any skilled nursing care or therapy, Medicare will not cover your care.

You should immediately report any changes in your symptoms or condition to your doctor or the home health agency staff so they can update your plan of care.
