What types of skilled nursing care or skilled therapy services will Medicare pay for?

Medicare will pay for the following while you are in a skilled nursing facility:
  • semiprivate room
  • meals
  • nursing care
  • therapy care (including physical, speech and occupational therapy)
  • medical social services
  • mental health services from clinical social workers
  • dietary counseling
  • medications
  • medical equipment and supplies
  • ambulance transportation (when other transportation would be dangerous to your health) to the nearest supplier of needed services that are not available at the SNF

Case Examples
Ms. Z needed more than 100 days of skilled nursing facility care.

Mrs. M was billed for her skilled nursing facility care.
