Medicare payment for skilled nursing care and skilled therapy services

Medicare will pay the full cost of the first 20 days and part of the cost of another 80 days of care in a Medicare-certified skilled nursing facility (SNF) each benefit period as long as it is medically necessary. A benefit period begins the day you start getting inpatient care and ends when you’ve been out of the hospital or skilled nursing facility for 60 days in a row.
